Great Northern Railway G type series turns 130 years oldIn 1870, Patrick Stirling introduced the 4-2-2 G type series, which was the fastest locomotive not just in Britain but in the world at the time. It was one in a tradition of Eastern speedsters, followed by the more famous A10, 3, and 4 classes of its successor company the L&NER. Today, the only surviving G class engine was steamed again, for the first time since 1925 for the anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, who were the first steam railway. This wasn't the only occasion, though, because it was also the 175th anniversary of the S&DR As an extra, we'll be releasing a G series model pack for the upcoming Microsoft Train Simulator, with G, G3, and G with Dome models. I head from the guy who we got to do them that he's even considering making a 4-4-2 version of the G class, but we'll see about that once Train Simulator comes out.The picture above is a rare colour photo from about 1895 or 1900 of No. 1001. I know that this is a lot different from the usual content here—this is a ROM site, after all, but this is just one of my interests. As for what game I'll put up next, I'm thinking either Half-Life or Dinosaur Planet—a friend of mine set me up with an early beta tester copy of the anticipated game from Rare from 1999, and I have the ROM image fixed up for emulators. It doesn't have voice acting at that point, just the standard Rare speech bubbles, but the plot's all there I think. Super fun. Expect that to be up in about four weeks?
